100-Day Creator Challenge #8: Act
What can you do now, in your current job/work, that aligns with your purpose?
Preamble: I opened the chat for this publication (the feature is only available on the substack app, though) after a couple of you asked if there was a way to connect a bit more with other challenge takers. (At the bottom of this post, I’ll add a PS with info from Substack on how to set it up.)
Feel free to connect, support, and discuss anything challenge or creativity-related (or anything that comes to mind, really).
Sometimes we’re stuck in a situation that we’d rather get out off. To do what we really want. But it’s not always possible to crawl out of a specific family or work situation without trade-offs that are too big.
That doesn't mean we shouldn’t act or that it is OK to use it as an excuse to do nothing.
At least try and see what the minimal thing you can do is, in your current situation, that is in the direction of what you want to do. Then you don't have to say “maybe” anymore., and you’ll see how much energy even a small act can give you!
(I wrote about this “maybe” mindset a few months ago, if you’re curious!)
Onto our posts!

It’s been six days since I accidentally peeled myself and my finger is healing quite nicely: a stubby little earthworm of a scab now sits on top of where a chunk of skin was once missing. The head of the worm is thick and hardened, but where its tail should be the flesh fades into pink and the skin is smoother/new and there are tiny white threads forming a parenthesis around its edges; this is where the scab has already begun to shed, the threads guarding the perimeter where it has flaked away. I am reminded of the time I found a shred of Ulrich’s knee scab on the floor of the bathroom a few weeks ago, an artifact from another injury from the recent past: the time he tripped and fell on old London cobblestone as we were rushing to catch the Tube to Heathrow.

I want | Afshan | 12/12/2022
I want to crawl inside your skin. To be absorbed by your body- through osmosis. I want your body as a shield Between the world and me. I want your warmth and strength Your sweet hot blood. I want your heart caging mine, Beating for the both of us. I want to speak with your mouth.

“I wish I had time for crocheting and knitting,” - said my mom when I told her I just finished making a baby sweater - “but I’ve barely finished editing the book, and it’s already time for Christmas cleaning”. That was a whole 27 days still before Christmas. My mom and my dad live all by themselves with no kids or pets, are both extremely clean and organized, and work much less in December than normally.

My personal trifecta that leads to tears of joy and love | Vishal | 12/12/2022
Tears are not just to express sadness. They also come with deep joy and overwhelming feelings of beauty, connection, and love. In the last few years, there have been a few instances where I experienced such emotions. All those experiences fall under one of the three buckets.

Audience Building | Chris Wong | 12/13/2022
Audience building is both boring and daunting to me. It's formulaic and feels like work. Write a thread every week. Write two tweets a day. Spend thirty minutes a day responding to tweets. This is the Audience Building Algorithm (ABA). Translatable to any social media platform.

Again, some great pieces today! And I sent a few to my kindle to read by the fire for later this week when I’m planning to take some time off of my day job. 🔥📚
See you tomorrow!

PS. 100-day Creator Challenge Chat
This is a conversation space in the Substack app that I set up exclusively for my subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. I’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, maybe once or twice a week, and you can jump into the discussion.
To join the chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications if you don’t want to miss conversation as it happens.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
